Works by Isabelle Delannoy : landscapes
Composed landscapes lend themselves to yet another sort of study. I apply successive layers of paint, correct their values, add in and take out some elements: this is the way my study passes off and how I describe real pleasure in imagining or drawing sketches from memory to achieve an art work. Therefore I first practice on my palette for a long time before actually going live. Then I apply tones until I find the ideal mix of colours, the one that will grant subtlety to the painting. I may succeed in it by juxtaposing colours one after the other.
"I do not oppose abstract painting to figurative painting. A painting should be both abstract and figurative. Abstract as a wall, figurative as a representation in space".
Nicolas de Staël
